Our opinion:

The Meaco Dehumidifier and Purifier is a very useful machine if you live in a damp place, have allergies and want to clean the air from your home whilst removing the excess humidity. This air purifier and dehumidifier will keep the humidity of your home at the level that you select. It has a humidity sensor that will guide the machine to leave the air with the exact humidity level that you choose.

Air flow

The maker does not specify if the advertised air flow (160m³/hour) is with or without the optional HEPA filter. It is to be expected that, with the HEPA filter on, the air flow will decrease between a 10% and a 20% , as the filter offers extra resistance to air (any filter that is useful will). We have missed some more information on the maker’s website regarding this.

But assuming we can count on with the air flow of 160m³/hour advertised by the maker on their website, that means (after applying the formula CADR x 1.55 = Room size in square feet) that the maximum room size that this device can cover is 25 square meters. This is fine is you are planning to use this device on a small to medium room. You may need a more powerful device if you want to use it in a bigger space. Although this applies mostly to the Air Purification capability. For Dehumidification capability it will be sufficient for bigger rooms as well.

Power

⚡One of the outstanding features of the Meaco Dehumidifier is its low energy consumption. This is very important, as some dehumidifiers can be very energy consuming, and that can make a difference in the electricity bill at the end of the month.

It is also very versatile, as it allows us to switch on either air purification, or air dehumidification, or both. This makes the Meaco platinum 20l low energy very useful all year round, from Spring to Winter.

Limitations

ℹ One thing that is worth noting , in comparison to other air purifiers: the meaco 12l  dehumidifier does not clean Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). VOC are harmful gases as found in the cigarette smoke, cooking fumes, gases from paints, new furniture, and other elements indoors. To clean these gases from the air, you need an air purifier with an activated charcoal filter. You can find some examples here. Air purifiers with dehumidification only include HEPA filters, but not activated charcoal filters.

Activated charcoal filters don’t combine well with dehumidification. So if you want VOC removal you need an air purifier without dehumidification. Therefore, here is a decision that you need to make. Based on your needs: do you prioritize dehumidification ? or harmful gas removal ? If you don’t smoke, haven’t painted your home lately, don’t have lots of new furniture… In that case you probably don’t need Volatile Organic Compounds removal and the Meaco Dehumidifier can be a great option for you. And if you live in a place with high humidity, it makes sense prioritize dehumidification over gas removal.

Level of noise

The Meaco 12l low energy dehumidifier and air purifier is also quite silent at its maximum power, with a maximum decibel measure of only 46 dB. This is quite reasonable compared to other air purifiers. Meaco 20L Low Energy Dehumidifier is ideal for use at night while you sleep.

So it is up to you to make this decision, on which type of feature you need more. In any case, the Meaco 20L Low Energy Dehumidifier and Purifier is an outstanding product that will improve the quality of the air where you live, whilst protecting you from high energy bills.
